Operation Christmas Child

Tonight the kids and I went to our homeschool group to assemble boxes for Samaritan's Purse: Operation Christmas Child. Great organization that sends shoe boxes full of goodies to needy children around the world at Christmastime.

Talk about choking a mom up... I had known that our kids were recipients at least once of these boxes back at the orphanage, but I wasn't prepared to hear Adam speak up voluntarily at the meeting and tell everyone not only that he'd gotten such a box, but also share how he felt when getting it, etc... My normally tongue-tied and silly Adam was very articulate and mature. Coulda heard a pin drop.

Very proud mama moment... Had to share.

Wow! I am sure that was so inspirational to everyone in attendance. Probably they wanted to go get MORE boxes to do as the whole concept became so much less abstract when a child they know could share his personal experience with it. I am sure it's also very special for your kids to participate now that they're on the sending instead of receiving side of things. Wow!

Wow! Hearing that just makes me want to tear up. You know those boxes impact a child's life, but you just don't realize how much. Give that guy six extra hugs for us!

Grandma is tearing up again, and spilling over. How wonderful that my Adam could share so well. I am thrilled that they could help with preparing the boxes and knowing how it will feel for another child to receive the gifts. I am so thankful for Adam, Liana, and Aleksa, and of course, Abrielle, too. We are so priveleged to have them as part of our family. Life would never be the same without them. So thankful for them... so thankful!!!

Love you all so much!

Hey Shelly!
Nicholaus very vividly remembers receiving a shoe box while in the Internat. He came running in the house shortly after being home from Ukraine (and barely speaking English) with a Samaritan's Purse mailing and kept saying MAIL FROM UKRAINE! He thought it was from Ukraine b/c he recognized the logo. That was when we learned he had received a box. Kinda puts the whole project in a different light doesn't it? I share that story with our church every year in the hopes that it will bring others more joy as they fill their boxes and encourage them to do just one more. And to know that one of our own church family was once a receipient of one of those boxes---possibly their's.

Kudos to Adam for sharing! And yes, I *still* cry every year when we do this project. And I pray over each box that we fill that it may go to a child that needs to know that someone, somewhere is praying for them and cares for them. Makes me cry now just thinking about it....

So give your kiddos a hug from us and tell Adam how proud his NC friends are!

Hi, I love reading your blog. Have gone back and read from the beginning and it has been a wonderful journey. Thank you for sharing your family. My adoption story has not turned out well but there is always hope and that is what you give me. A picture of whole and happy children and it fills me with joy. Thanks again.
